concepts and Animation
The Idea - Niel's idea was pretty simple but funny. The character would be working late on his computer, trying to get his work done last minute, but he is tired and feels put out by the fact the deadline is the coming morning. Then he hears a weird noise and notices a strange bottle roll in. Curious he picks it up and without thinking, drinks it. He then feels fully charged and even physically changes and feels pumped up to work. He becomes super fast at typing and is on a roll. The table shakes and the bottle, which was at the edge of the table falls. He is about to click on save when the bottle drops onto the power socket and the computer short circuits and dies. He cries out in horror before the piece ends.
Before term 2
I did a few concepts as I was unsure what was needed of me at this point for Niel's project. I knew I was going to work onher project, it was just deciding what was needed of me. From a talk I had with my tutor before the holidays, we agreed upon me not animating, but doing something that could help me in my future as a possible concept artist. I decided on trying lighting because that is essential.
Also, Niel asked for updates and I wanted to help design the drink bottle. I did a few quick office sketches to get an idea of the office too. She gave us a deadline as well. LO5 + LO6

I used a few office references to make the office concepts. These were really basic and just to get an idea. LO2
In order to achieve the bottle designs, I actually tried to incorporate the story into the design. I left my notes as to my thinking behind each design above. LO3
I got some feedback from Niel about the bottles and which one she liked best. It gave me more idea of what she wanted from the design. LO5

WEEK 1
This first week we had a briefing and I got to discuss with Niel, what she wanted from the project and what she needed me to do. Initially I did not want to do animation, but since another member dropped out last minute from animation, Niel wondered if I could. Since I knew she would be animating on her own, I decided to try to help out.
We also discussed me doing the 2D lighting and colouring, and compositing on After Effects which I was more than happy to do as I wanted to test myself as these were things I had never tried before. LO1
Below is the task list we had decided upon. This was not a final list, but a general idea of what everyone in the group was doing. LO6

ANIMATION
WEEK 2
This was not exactly what I expected to be doing, but I was very willing to try to animate in 2D. Help was needed to get the animation done, so I stepped up to try it. LO1
Below are Niel's designs and character face sheet to make it easier for us animators to replicate her style.

These wasn't a finalized shot, but a test animation to see how I could animate in 2D. I used Niel's character sheets to get a general idea of what he looked like and the colours used.
Niel had given me shot 12-14 to try out and here were my results LO2 + LO3 |

WEEK 3
I had asked Niel for more angles of the character so she sent us more angles of the characters on facebook. LO5
Below, Niel's facebook post and character reference sheets for us animators.

Here is an animation test that looks more like the character she drew. LO3

To see how the character would look coloured, I added colour to the animation test to see what it may look like in the final piece. LO3

Niel had asked me to do more shots and these were more tests for it. However, half way through, I brought up a much quicker timeline and how to keep the character consistent. It was decided that Niel would do all the rough animation, Rod would clean up the lines and I would colour and light the 2D shots. After that I would then composite. LO3
WEEK 4
Lecture with Haz 26-01-15
Here is the final shape design that Niel approved of and I used different colours to see how they would work.
We then agreed that the redder ones was much better looking and seemed more interesting and powerful as a design. LO4 + LO5
