Moon Child Final Film
Evaluation
Now having seen everything put together I am pleasantly surprised. I didn't know how everything was going to be put together and how it would look in the end. I didn't really get to see everything as it was being put together, but I am surprised. It's a really lovely piece. I think the sound and visuals go nicely together. I think the animation and the combo between the 2D girl and the 3D creature was incredibly done. Especially since it was a bit of a last minute thing with deciding the girl was going to be animated in 2D. So hats off to Rebecca.
I think the sound always brings a piece together and I think it was really striking with the song playing behind it as well as the girl's little gasps and laughter. It feels a little awkward to say that some of the downsides were the backgrounds I did. I felt like they perhaps were not good enough? Not in the worst way. I mean, I worked closely with the director and was given the thumbs up to all of it, which obviously meant they were good enough for her, but as the artist, maybe they will never be good enough for me? One's self is always the worst critic.
However, this was the first time trying out 2D/3D for me and the experience was really worth it. I have a bit more of a feel on how it works or what to do next time. I feel like I probably should have become more involved with the compositing process, but I feel that there was never enough time to check what was going on. Maybe if I had seen some of the backgrounds in the scenes and had more of an idea of what was happening with them, I would have changed things. But again, the year sped by, and maybe I should have not joined two groups in hindsight for term 2 and 3. I have definitely learnt my lesson of not taking on more than I can chew!
With all that said and done, it was a roller-coaster journey that I can be proud to say I went through.
